IWC Calatrava Dress Watch 1950s
Calibre IWC Cal. 89What draws me to this dial is the single Arabic 12 sitting above a plain minute track of dots and slim baton markers, a quiet, asymmetric touch on an otherwise restrained Calatrava face. The silvered dial has toned evenly to a soft warm grey, and the dauphine hands still catch the light cleanly against it. I can see the case has been lightly polished, softening the transition at the lugs though the stepped shoulders and downturned tips remain sharp and well defined. Inside sits the manual-wind Cal. 89, and I've left it in its case back rather than opening it further, keeping the caseback's engine-turned finish intact. My view is that this suits someone after a properly sized 1950s dress watch rather than a piece traded on wear or provenance. It wears small and flat on the wrist, and I'd point it toward a first vintage IWC rather than a specialist's top-tier chase.
