Longines Calatrava Dress Watch, 1960s
Ref. 8902-3 · Calibre Longines 30LThe silvered dial on this one has broken down in a way I find more interesting than off-putting: a mottled, cloud-like patina spreads across the sunburst finish, heaviest toward the edges and thinning near the centre, with the applied gold baton markers and dauphine hands still catching light cleanly against it. The case is gold-plated over a steel back, as stamped underneath, and the plating shows brassing at the high points of the lugs and bezel edge, which I'd expect from a piece this age rather than treat as a flaw. Turning it over, the manual-wind Longines calibre 30L is clean under the loupe, with sharp jewel settings and no obvious past intervention that I can see. I like that the movement side reads better than the dial, which tells me this one was looked after mechanically even as the surface aged on its own terms. It suits a buyer who wants a 1960s Calatrava-style dress watch bought for what it is, patina included.
