Universal Geneve Dress 1970s

Provenance — Bought at auction online, like most of what I keep.
The plain gilt dial on this one has faded to a warm, slightly uneven champagne rather than staying a flat gold, which tells me it has spent real time on a wrist rather than in a drawer. The Roman numerals and dauphine hands are crisp and unmarked, and the crown still bears the Universal Geneve monogram cleanly. Case-wise this is the 542 101 in yellow gold-filled construction over a stainless "fond acier inoxydable" back, and the lug edges show soft brassing where the plating has thinned with wear. I opened it up and the calibre 1-42 inside is clean, unbutchered, with sharp bridge finishing and a legible but undisclosed serial. I'd put this in front of someone who wants a slim manual-wind dress watch to actually wear, not one polished back to looking new.
Buying from a stranger, in short. Every fault I know of is in the listing, and if you find one I missed, the return stands. Take the watch to a watchmaker of your choosing before you pay — I have never once objected. Fourteen days to send it back, for any reason at all.
Privatverkauf. Everything described above — case, dial, hands, lume, rate and service history — is agreed condition for this watch and I stand behind all of it. Beyond that, the watch is sold excluding liability for material defects, as is normal between private individuals for a vintage mechanical object of this age. That exclusion does not cover anything I have misdescribed or failed to disclose, and never covers injury or intent.
