Calibre Zenith 2542The star above the ZENITH signature is what pulled my eye first, a small enamelled detail that a lot of dial refinishers get wrong or leave off entirely, and here it sits crisp and intact against a dial that has gone a soft, uneven cream with faint speckled foxing rather than any dressed-up whiteness. I like that the applied baton indices and the gilt dauphine hands still throw a clean flash of light against that aged surface. The gold-filled case carries real brassing at the lugs and case-back edge, the metal thinning through from wear over time, and the crystal has scratches consistent with decades of handling. Turning it over, the 17-jewel manual caliber 2542 is clean and unmolested, with a legible serial and nothing that looks tampered with. This suits someone who wants a 1960s dress watch to wear as found, not one that has been tidied up for a photograph.
