Jaeger LeCoultre 8 Days Alarm Travel Clock, 1950s
Calibre Jaeger Lecoultre 240I set this down on the desk and it holds its footing on the two flat-cut lug-like corners, the drum-shaped case rocking slightly like it was built to. The dial is a warm champagne colour with a brushed centre and a smoother outer band, applied dot markers, and painted Arabic numerals at 12, 3 and 6 that show real age against the metal. My eye keeps going to the blued alarm-set triangle above centre and the small foxing spot near the pinion, both untouched. The case is heavily brassed at the edges and top, brass showing through the plating in patches consistent with handling rather than polishing. On the back, the two winding crowns for movement and alarm sit either side of a regulator, and the visible eight-day Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 240 under the lever confirms what the dial states plainly. I'd sell this to someone who wants a desk clock to run and adjust, not display cased away.
