Calibre Longines 23MThe dial on this example has aged unevenly - freckled spotting has crept in across the lower half and around the 6 and 7, while the upper register stays cleaner, and I've left it exactly as it came to me. What you're looking at is a Longines Calatrava from the 1940s, Arabic numerals and blued steel hands still sharp against the silvered surface, with a small running-seconds register at six. The case is gold-plated rather than solid, and it shows for it: the back has dulled and freckled, and the plating is brassing through at the lug edges. Turn it over and the manual-wind caliber 23M is signed, jewelled and clean under the loupe. I'd suggest this one to someone who wants a dial with real character rather than one that's been redone, and who won't mind a case that reads its age.
